The network that ties MartNet together

No visit to da Haus would be complete without a tour of the house network. Thin wire and twisted pair ethernet, serial lines and LocalTalk cable tie together about 50 machines into, as far as we know, the largest personal network around. If you know of any larger network of this kind (this kind being in a house, non-corporate, and used as a plaything for the bored and geeky) please let us know (and send pictures!) The network is connected to the Internet via a Compatible Systems MicroRouter, (which, by the way, cannot survive a lightning strike!) General Data Com CSU/DSU, (which, by the way, CAN survive a lightning strike!) and a T1 line. (which, by the way, is likely to be struck by lightening!)

During your stay, please be sure to visit....

The (never complete) Map of the house network!

The Network Operations Center (NOC), where all the new stuff lives...

The Living Room, home to DECland!

The Dining Room, the main workshop and testing area.

KitchenLand, where we like to cook, eat, and check our mail in the morning (and evening!)

The Reagan Room (once you see it, you'll know where the name comes from!)

Each room houses it's own unique treasures. Look for links on each page to nostalgic information on the machines which are there, vintage software archives, technical information, and other nifty stuff. If you have any links or other stuff you think should be added to the archives, send it in! If you're looking for specific information on something you see, ask us. The worst thing that'll happen is we'll say no.

Check out this page to find out how we test equipment (by throwing it from very high places...)

Also be sure to visit the Inhabitants page, and see the psychos who live here and pay the electric bill

Coming soon! VRML models and QTVR movies of da Haus, networked bathrooms, as well as Nick's guide to dumpster diving (subtitled: how to build a network like ours with little or no money).
